People at all levels of an organisation are key components of any approach to process safety, one expert has underlined.

Dr David Firth, business development and marketing manager at Chilworth Technology, emphasised that a good process safety culture is vital in order for an organisation to maintain high standards of process safety management.

Mr Firth listed some of the qualities that are required for excellent process safety management, noting: "Clearly the key to process safety excellence requires strong leadership and pan-organisational commitment to embed process safety culture within the company."

He went on to say that companies should take advantage of hazard and risk information in order to plan, develop and operate their operations.

One firm that was recently recognised for its efficient health and safety measures is Portal, which has picked up an award from the British Safety Council.

The organisation won the International Safety Award 2012 after striving to lower the likelihood of accidents.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801380293-ADNFCR
