Wind turbine brought down due to safety worries

The Coldingham wind turbine at Bogan Green farm has been brought to ground as a result of a mechanical failure.

Such an incident may prompt firms to fit safety signage in order to remind people to maintain the machines.

Maden Design & Build has stated that the structure was installed correctly, though its precarious movement caused police to close a busy road and evacuate several homes, reports the Berwick Advertiser.

Simon Maden, Maden Design & Build managing director, said: "All parties decided a controlled collapse was the way to go. If we ever found ourselves in the same situation again I wouldn’t do anything differently."

After assessing the structure, it was determined that its break mechanisms failed.

It follows an article for the Wishaw Press, in which a local businessman claimed that road works took place without nearby residents being notified.

Because of this, people were unable to put up warning signs, informing customers of the situation.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801244294-ADNFCR
