Thatcham takeaway fined after not taking fire safety precautions

The Kings Chinese takeaway in Thatcham has been hit with fines of more than £11,000, after it was found to have breached fire safety regulations.

Such a fine will act as a warning for firms to ensure they have fire safety signs installed, following an Environmental Health inspection that found inadequate fire protection provision for escape routes among other safety risks, reports NewburyToday.co.uk.

David Walden from Royal Berkshire Fire Authority, which brought the charges, told the website: "This financial penalty shows that the courts do not agree. This was a clear refusal to meet statutory requirements to ensure the premises was provided with adequate fire safety measures."

Mr Walden remarked that some firms are dangerously treating fire safety legislation compliance as an option.

Fire safety was also put under the spotlight by West Sussex Fire and Rescue recently, which told the Littlehampton Gazette that people should ensure that their electrical appliances are working and not a safety danger.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801287887-ADNFCR
