A resident from Stretton has called for new warning signs to be erected in the River Dove amid worries over the health and safety of children.

Nina Coates believes that her two German shepherds picked up fungal infections as a result of mud from the river when they both fell into the water during a walk, according to the Burton Mail.

Speaking to the newspaper, Mrs Coates said: "My worry is that children were playing by the riverbank at the same time my dogs went in, and I think this is where my dogs got their infections."

Mrs Coates also noted that there should be warning signs near the river, as the area is very dangerous.

Her concerns come after locals helped to select new names for door signs at some of the wards at Broomfield Hospital.

The wards are currently known as numbers, but they are now set to be retitled after mid-Essex villages.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800618567-ADNFCR
