Steel River Consultants (SRC) has won a health and safety contract, which will see it improve efficiency at a Sahaviriya Steel Industries site.

SRC will manage the safety design and provide support for the £50 million plant, highlighting the importance of measures such as safety signage. It is anticipated to work on the premises for the next 12 to 18 months, reports the Northern Echo.

Chris Dixon, a safety consultant the firm, told the newspaper: "To win a contract at the SSI plant is a real honour. Getting such high profile work shows just how far we have come in the year or so since we have been in operation."

Mr Dixon said that the contract bodes well for the future of the company.

A number of firms were recently recognised for their health and safety work by the annual Alan Butler Awards.

Among these was the Sheffield Occupational Health and Safety Association, which picked up the Gold Award and Overall Winner honours.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801293140-ADNFCR
