Signage missing from London estates

A number of safety breaches have been reported in council blocks on the West Kensington and Gibbs Green Estates.

Among these were missing signage and broken door handles, leaving many residents fearing for their own safety, reports the Fulham Chronicle.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council has failed to provide sufficient measures to stop fire, while there are also no clear emergency escape routes.

Charlie Treloggan, an inhabitant of one of the estates, told the newspaper: "The council has no interest in these blocks and no interest in social housing."

Mr Treloggan, who was a labour councillor between 1997 and 2006, also claimed that the authority has let the estates become run down.

News of the safety breaches seen on the estates comes after the Myth Busters Challenge Panel was announced in an effort to explore the misuse of health and safety regulations.

Health and Safety Executive boss Judith Hackitt will chair the group, which will look into "ridiculous" decisions and reverse them when needed.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801357997-ADNFCR
