Hundreds of Scottish families are being given the chance to secure essential home safety equipment as part of a new scheme.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has launched the Home Safety Equipment Scheme, which hopes to reduce inequalities for all families across the nation.

As part of the initiative, RoSPA Scotland will work with local agencies and organisations to identify up to 600 families in Edinburgh, East Dunbartonshire, Inverclyde, West Dunbartonshire and West/East Lothian that qualify for home safety equipment.

Elizabeth Lumsden, community safety manager for RoSPA Scotland, said: "We are pleased to announce the launch of Scotland’s Home Safety Equipment Scheme today.

"We are looking forward to working locally with health visitors, fire officers and a range of other partners who visit families and who can help identify those who would benefit most from this potentially life-saving equipment."

The scheme is expected to run from April 2013 to June 2014 and will benefit an extra 200 families in Aberdeen and the Western Isles.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801570703-ADNFCR
