Safety signage is to be improved at blackspots across the roads of Leicestershire.

Almost 300 crashes have occurred at 20 accident blackspots in the last three years, with the city and county councils now hoping to improve safety by reducing speed limits, warning signs and street lighting, reports the Leicester Mercury.

Safety improvements will be made on the junctions of Welford Road, Overdale Road, Aberdale Road, Welford Road, Chapel Lane and Knighton Lane East.

Speaking to the newspaper, deputy city mayor councillor Rory Palmer said: "The figures inform the decisions we make about a range of measures we are considering."

Mr Palmer continued by saying that he is assessing the infrastructure for cyclists to discover how the roads could be made safer for them.

An article for the Henley Standard recently reported that the 30mph stretch of Oxfordshire's Marlow Road will now feature a 76mm post on the verge, as the existing junction sign will be moved from a lamppost to a separate fitting.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800789062-ADNFCR
