Safety signs to help Halifax children on winter roads

30th October 2009 | Warning Signs

Children in Halifax will be reminded about the need to be careful on the roads with new safety signs.

Calderdale Council's road safety team and the Halifax Joint Committee have set up a road safety scheme to teach more than 24,000 primary school pupils how to be protected during the darker, winter months.

In addition to leaflets being handed to the pupils, safety signs will be put on buses and railings outside their schools, reminding them to wear reflective gear and fluorescent clothing.

Craig Whittaker, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "It is important that we all work together to ensure Calderdale primary school children are safe and visible on the roads this winter."

He added that it is a "crucial message" for both parents and children.

Other areas of the country have been teaching children about the need to be seen in the dark, with a roadshow stopping in Colchester this week to offer advice on staying safe.ADNFCR-2754-ID-19435190-ADNFCR
