Safety signs: HSE to hold lifting and moving goods session
16th November 2009 | Health and Safety Signs
Those looking at installing safety signs are being invited to a session designed to help businesses protect workers involved in the lifting and movement of heavy goods. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is running the event in the North East and Highlands area and is intended to promote sensible management and raise awareness in these locations. John Radcliffe, an inspector with the organisation, claims that there are approximately 50 deaths a year due to these incidents. He states: "During our inspections we’re keen to see how local employers are promoting health and safety using active leadership from managers and by involving staff." Those looking at safety signs should ensure they prepare the procedures effectively, implementing a documented lift plan and ensuring that this is communicated to all of those involved in the process. In other news, the Hughes Brothers Building and Joinery has been fined £8,000 after an accident highlighting the importance of adequate safety signs.
