Road users need to heed safety signs

10th November 2009 | Construction Signs

Drivers have been warned to make sure they take care while driving past planned roadworks and heed the safety signs which will be in place as the improvements are carried out.

The Highways Agency in the West Midlands gave vehicle owners the advice ahead of overnight resurfacing work which is taking place on the A38 near Lichfield as part of Network Rail's upgrading of the West Coast Main Line.

Jon McCarthy, from the Highways Agency, said: "Drivers are asked to take care when driving past the works, both for their own safety and that of the workforce."

He added that road users may need to allow some extra time for overnight journeys as delays may occur while using the highway.

Meanwhile, Leeds City Council and the Health and Safety Executive will be running a campaign to monitor the use of safety signs in the city to make sure the correct notifications are in place.
