Road sign criticised in Benfleet

Residents in Benfleet have criticised one of their nearby road signs, which rises above houses in the Oak Walk area.

It informs people on the A13 which roads they should enter in order to reach Chelmsford and Canvey, but its size has frustrated local homeowners, with one resident telling the Echo that it is a "monstrosity".

Speaking to the news provider, Robbie Robertson, 75, of Oak Walk, said: "It is massive and the lights from the cars reflect off the sign, right into my house. It's ridiculous."

Mr Robertson added that he went to look at plans for the roadworks before they were installed and there was no suggestion that the sign would be so close to his home.

Recently, signage in Weymouth and Portland were criticised by locals, who deemed them misleading.

Councillor Ian Bruce told the Dorset Echo that the signs are too vague, explaining that they are "worse than useless".ADNFCR-2754-ID-801407814-ADNFCR
