Reducing carbon footprint is important for businesses

Businesses should do all that they can to reduce their carbon emissions, according to an industry expert.
Chief executive of the British Council for Offices (BCO) Richard Kauntze said that offices and commercial buildings in the UK account for 20 per cent of the country's carbon emissions.
He noted that it is important to minimise this where possible, and warning signs could be used to remind employees to turn off lights and computers, while recycling paper, glass and plastic is another step which could be taken.
Recently, the BCO launched an online accreditation course alongside the College of Estate Management in order to set the standards for office development in the UK.
"The BCO specifications are fundamentally about greenness, they are about how to produce the most environmentally-friendly building at the lowest, sensible cost. So if you get the structure right and run it efficiently, then you're halfway there really," Mr Kauntze said.
