Northumberland businesses to be consulted ahead of new signs ruling

Northumberland businesses will be consulted before council officials enforce new measures regarding advertising signs in the area.
Last year, a number of companies were forced to take down their signage or face the threat of legal action. However, planning officers are now hoping to present a more supportive approach to the issue, reports the Journal.
The opinions of town and parish councils, local chambers of trade and business associations will be considered prior to guidance being distributed.
Local pub owner Dave Hutchinson was told to take down signs last year, but has greeted the new approach warmly.
"This new approach has got to be a good thing for all businesses as far as I'm concerned, because everyone is struggling at the moment," he said.
Signs have also been under the spotlight in Midhurst, with the Midhurst and Petworth Observer reporting that residents have asked the South Downs National Park Authority to confirm what it views as satisfactory signage.
