Nightclub owners in Lancashire have been fined after not providing adequate safety measures, including safety signage.

Stephen Bailey and Kevin Clarke have confessed several fire safety breaches in relation to Coco Lounge, Temptations and Cooler Bar in Silver Street, Bury. As a result, legal action has been taken against them by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, reports Bolton News.

Peter O'Reilly, director of prevention and protection at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, told the news provider: "We will take action against those businesses that neglect fire safety and, in doing so, put the lives of staff and the public at risk."

It is hoped that the case sends a clear message regarding fire safety to businesses, Mr O'Reilly noted.

This case follows the announcement of a new initiative by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
