The National House Building Council (NHBC) has introduced a new Competent Person scheme to provide health and safety advice to builders and traders.

It means that such workers can gain assistance when it comes to complying with legislation and procedures, with the initiative particularly targeted at small and medium-sized builders.

Tom Kitchen, operations manager of NHBC’s Health & Safety Services, said: "With the complexity of health and safety legislation, and its current state of change, smaller builders risk inadvertent non-compliance, and are looking for someone they can rely on."

Mr Kitchen added that, after interacting with builders, it was apparent that the help is warmly welcomed and required.

Health and safety is of the utmost importance to businesses and ETD Training is another firm that has strengthened its measures in the field.

The company has introduced numerous independently-accredited courses, which are aimed at both private sector companies and organisations in the public sector.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801403909-ADNFCR
