Revellers attending what promises to be a spectacular firework display in the capital have been urged to pay attention to warning signs at the event.

The London Mayor's Office has issued the alert as part of its guidance for visitors to the annual midnight fireworks display which takes place on the banks of the Thames.

Around 250,000 people regularly watch the celebrations from the official viewing platforms while millions enjoy it from elsewhere in the city.

The ten point guide includes an alert for people to keep an eye out for health and safety signage, to expect large crowds, to dress appropriately for the occasion, and to beware of pickpockets, the Harrow times reported.

Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, said revellers could look forward to an "exhilarating and primal" night out.

"With our dazzling display we want to capture the dynamism, colour and energy that are the hallmarks of our great city.

"However you bring in the New Year, have a wonderful time. Here's to welcoming in 2011."ADNFCR-2754-ID-800318607-ADNFCR
