New sign needed to replace dragon warning

A new road sign is needed to replace a warning sign in Surrey that advises motorists to beware of dragons crossing the road.
The sign stands on the A25 Epsom Road which leads to Merrow, near Guildford, and has for many years been a firm fixture that amuses motorists, none of whom have ever encountered a real-life fire-breather.
The sign was erected as an homage to the local legend that a dragon once blocked the road to Clandon until a former army officer slayed it.
However, vandals recently struck and graffitied over the sign, which could now present a danger to drivers, according to highways authority Surrey County Council.
"While this has its funny side, road signs are there for a reason, and vandalism of this kind can only increase risk to our road users," it said in a statement.
"It presents a distraction for motorists and at the same time means they can't tell what hazard the sign was originally warning them about."
