New safety signs are to be introduced at Archbishop of York Junior School and Bishopthorpe Infant School.

The York Press reported that a competition was held for children to design signs persuading road users to take extra care when driving in residential areas where schools are nearby.

Jonathan Green, head teacher at Archbishop of York Junior school, told the news provider: “The children understand fully the impact that the signs will have to their own and other people’s safety on and around the roads in Bishopthorpe.”

The signs are the first phase in a number of measures created to improve road safety around the school, along with introducing 20mph speed limits in residential areas.

Drivers should ensure they take notice of all signs on the road, or they could be left unaware of speed restrictions.

Councillor Dave Merrett also commented on the situation, telling the news provider that it is “really important” that people are made aware of the dangers of speed.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801610969-ADNFCR
