New safety signs in London suburb will prevent bollard crashes

A number of new safety signs are to be erected in the London suburb of Woodford Green in an attempt to stop the frequent bollard crashes that occur in the area.

In April, Redbridge Council erected three small bollards at the High Elms and Elm Grove junction in a bid to cut down the number of car accidents, but it has had an unexpected side-effect as vehicles have now begun crashing into the bollards themselves, the Wanstead and Woodford Guardian reports.

To stop this unwanted effect, the local authority is now set to install signs that warn motorists about the bollards.

Cllr Clyde Loakes, Waltham Forest's cabinet member for environment, commented: "We are monitoring the situation following Redbridge’s installation of the bollards, and will consider installing signage should this prove necessary."

Locals have previously voiced their objection to commuters using the area's narrow residential roads as a rat run, claiming that the council should erect 'no access' signs to deter drivers.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801598682-ADNFCR
