New road warning sign near school to inform speeding drivers

14th July 2010 | Warning Signs

A new warning sign has been placed on a busy road near a school in Chard in an effort to get motorists to slow down.

This is the West Country reports that the safety sign is one of a number of measures being employed by Chard School as a means of improving the safety of its pupils.

Road markings reading "School - Keep Clear" have been painted on the road directly outside the institution, while plans are in place to introduce further signs on another busy road nearby.

The news provider reports that the latest developments have come about just weeks after the school's head John Stotesbury was at the forefront of a demonstration.

This involved 96 schoolchildren walking back and forward across a pedestrian crossing for 30 minutes in an effort to encourage drivers to slow down.

However, a police community support officer arrived at the scene after ten minutes to put an end to the plan.

Earlier this year, some road signs were erected in Romania displaying the message 'Attention - Drunks' in an attempt to reduce the number of accidents involving those to have had too much to drink.
