New electronic signs introduced to M62

New electronic warning signs have been activated on the M62 as part of work to upgrade it to a managed motorway.

The signs display speed limit and lane closure information, with a 50mph restriction remaining in force between junctions 27 and 28, while advisory speed limits will be put in place during busy periods.

Highways Agency project manager David Pilsworth said: "Activating the electronic signs on this stretch will allow both road users and the operators at our regional control centre in Wakefield to become familiar with how the managed motorway works."

Mr Pilsworth went on to say that this will be the first section of the managed motorway to go live in the north.

Elsewhere, a 20mph speed limit is to be introduced in the Leigh area of Wigan in an effort to improve road safety.

The majority of streets in built-up areas within Leigh are to benefit from the restriction, which will be rolled out across the borough by April 2015.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801539678-ADNFCR
