The Mineral Products Association's (MPA) health and safety conference and awards have celebrated safety measures in the industry, such as the adoption of warning signs.

In total, 126 entries from 28 companies appeared at the awards, marking its highest level of participation ever, while an increasing number of these firms had fewer than 1,000 direct employees.

Nigel Jackson, chief executive of MPA, said: "Health and safety is an absolute priority for MPA and these awards play a key part in helping our industry to achieve its overall goal of 'zero harm' by sharing new ideas and fresh thinking."

Mr Jackson also remarked that MPA has developed Safer by Competence as one of its key policies to ensure greater health and safety standards.
