MEP calls for Hull's no smoking scheme to be dropped

Hull's anti-smoking scheme should stop because it is wasting money that could be spent more wisely elsewhere, an MEP has said.

Godfrey Bloom, the UKIP member for Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire, believes that the initiative, which features many no smoking signs, is not effective for people in the city, reports BBC Humberside.

Speaking to the news provider, Mr Bloom said: "I think it is a complete waste of money, most government initiatives are a complete waste of money. Don't forget we are spending people's money when we use these initiatives."

He also expressed that it is not the government's role to tell people "how to live their lives".

Last month, the Daily Mail revealed that a pub landlady in Wales was fined after she was found to use handwritten no smoking signs.

Dawn Lemm's pub the Judge and Jury breached regulations which state that the signage must be rectangular and span a minimum length of 6.3 inches.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800721416-ADNFCR
