John Rowe is now the new head of operations for the Health and Safety Executive in Yorkshire and the Humber.

The Barnsley man will lead a team of 29 inspectors, who are working towards improving the safety of thousands of workers in their jobs across the region.

Dr Rowe comes into the position after 14 years within the HSE, working for the past five in Sheffield, where he has covered South Yorkshire and the Humber region.

“Although the trend for deaths and injuries in the workplace has declined over the years, there is still a stubborn number of preventable incidents largely within high-risk industries, and some companies that do not take the protection of their employees seriously,” he explained.

Dr Rowe added that every working person has the right and expectation they will return home safely from their time at work, meaning it is a priority to increase enforcement action for companies that breach safety laws.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801613420-ADNFCR
