Accident rates can be decreased by a third by firms that invest in health and safety measures such as safety signage, one analyst has underlined.

Although employers are morally and legally obliged to look after the safety and wellbeing of their workers, there are many other reasons for enforcing health and safety policies, according to the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

Phil Bates, senior policy and technical adviser at the IOSH, said that there are clear economic benefits that come with training staff in health and safety.

Mr Bates stated: "It is safe to say that successful companies are those who show they care for their staff – providing health and safety training demonstrates this."

Last week, more than 200 safety specialists from around the world congregated in Leicester for IOSH's Annual Networks Conference.

Experts travelled from locations as far away as Singapore and the Caribbean to attend the event.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801208225-ADNFCR
