Gas fitter prosecuted after illegal inspections

A Suffolk man has been prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after illegally carrying out gas inspections on mobile units in Suffolk.

Antony George Hewitt was trading as Hewitt Plumbing Solutions Ltd and issued gas safety records against the law under the names of authenticated Gas Safe registered installers in July 2010 and July 2011.

HSE inspector Martin Kneebone said: "I cannot emphasise enough that all gas work should only be carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers, who have the required training, qualifications and up-to-date competence."

Mr Kneebone went on to say that the HSE will take "robust action" against anyone who disobeys rules.

It is important for businesses to ensure that they abide by regulations or they may face financial punishment from the HSE and could suffer reputational damage, potentially causing them to lose customers.

Once they have been fined, it can also be difficult for businesses to rebuild their profile.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801412710-ADNFCR
