New safety signs that flash up speeding motorists’ registration numbers will stay in use in Walsall.

The Express and Star has reported that local council chiefs have agreed to carry on funding the technology with help from the West Midlands Road Safety Partnership.

The council will be keep on using the equipment along Broadway, Sutton Road and Northgate, Aldridge, where it will cost the council nearly £5,000 a year.

Transport chief councillor Tom Ansell told the news provider: “The watchman signs were initially funded through the West Midlands Road Safety Partnership.

“The ongoing maintenance and operation of the signs is now the council’s responsibility and they will continue to be used in the future with the costs met from existing council budgets for road safety.”

Road users who notice faulty signage should contact their local authority as soon as possible to see if replacements can be brought in, or the safety of drivers could be put at risk.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801584954-ADNFCR
