Farmers advised to attend Herefordshire farm safety event

Farmers have been encouraged to attend a health and safety event that focuses on Britain's hazardous farming industry.

The Safety and Health Awareness Day (SHAD) has been planned by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for February 14th and aims to teach people about the safe use and maintenance of farm vehicles and machinery, potentially leading to the installation of new safety signage.

SHAD will take place at the Herefordshire College of Technology's Holme Lacy campus.

Harvey Wild, HSE principal inspector for agriculture in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said: "Many farmers are self-employed or run small family businesses and we want to make sure they’re not putting themselves and their livelihoods at risk."

The announcement of HSE's event comes after the group emphasised its strict approach to health and safety by warning that it will not hesitate to prosecute firms that do not adopt adequate safety measures.

It warned that companies must implement required standards with good planning, communication and cooperation.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801280613-ADNFCR
