A Dublin event has put the focus on protecting staff and patients in the residential care sector.

Patient handling, fire safety and safety management of staff and patients were some of the issues tackled by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Ireland Branch Healthcare Section.

Over 100 care home owners, managers, facility managers, directors of nursing and health and safety professionals attended the seminar at the Ashling Hotel.

IOSH Healthcare Section chair Tom Madden said: "Both residents and staff in the care environment face issues that, if not properly managed, can threaten their health and safety.

"We would like to see care homes across Ireland taking a good look at the strategies they currently have in place and asking whether they are robust enough to stand up to scrutiny."

Recently, IOSH announced its Managing Safely in the Music and Entertainment Industry course, which hopes to train technical managers about the dangers associated with large-scale crowds and music events.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801541095-ADNFCR
