Motorists in Newmarket have been urged to take note of warning signs after a number of people encountered trouble after the recent adverse weather.

Several roads have been shut following the conditions, but authorities in the area are concerned about drivers who are ignoring the notices and attempting to travel through the water, reports the Newmarket Journal.

Speaking to the news provider, inspector Iain Clark said: "Several routes have been closed off with signs and cones but it appears some drivers are choosing to ignore these or even move them out of the way."

Mr Clark added that resources are being deployed to rescue motorists, which is taking officers away from their other important duties.

Torrential rain has affected many areas of the country over the past week, resulting in cancelled trains and closed roads in many areas.

Drivers who are looking to travel in the next few days should check the forecast before their journey and prepare for the possibility of adverse weather.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801496353-ADNFCR
