Dog owners that ignore safety signs warning them to keep their pets on a lead could be banned from the Mundy Playing Fields in Thornbury.

Some dog walkers have continued to allow their pets to roam free at the park despite signs in the area and now town councillors are preparing to put their foot down.

According to The Gazette, the situation has escalated in recent months, with dogs fouling on children's play equipment, putting the health and safety of youngsters at risk.

Town clerk Judith Payne told the news provider: "If people don't keep their dogs under control councillors will have to ban dogs from the playing fields."

Mrs Payne added that banning pets would be the council’s last resort but may have to happen as children's health was at stake.

A Mundy Playing Fields spokesman said only a small minority of irresponsible owners were letting their dogs foul near the play area and on the pitches.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801401234-ADNFCR
