The safety of hundreds of cyclists was put in jeopardy at a recent event in New Forest.
The people behind UK Cycling's New Forest Spring Sportive were forced to take immediate action at the start of the race when more than 1,000 route signs were subjected to vandalism, reports the Daily Echo.
Speaking to the news provider, Martin Barden, director of UK Cycling, said: "A small minority of people have taken to vigilante lengths to stop the events. Their behaviour is unacceptable.
"[They] have tried to ruin the day for everyone and tried to endanger cyclists."
Mr Barden went on to say that the action was "appalling".
If warning signs are vandalised, locals should immediately contact their council to see if they can be repaired or replaced.
Such action will help to ensure that road users and residents are kept safe.
