Companies reminded to carry out early risk assessments

3rd January 2014 | Health and Safety Signs

A leading solicitor has reminded companies that performing early risk assessments is one of the best ways to ensure their year is as accident-free as possible.

David Edwards, of Harrison Drury, said: “Avoiding being liable under this section requires an early risk assessment.

“Employers must carry out a systematic examination of work activities and practices, record the significant findings, take steps to reduce the risks and inform those employees who may be affected.”

By performing risk assessments, employers can ensure they fully understand the dangers that the work they perform involves.

This way, they can be sure that they take the appropriate steps to prevent accidents, such as establishing a safe practice of work, or putting up safety signs.

The vast majority of the accidents that occurred in workplaces in 2013 could have been avoided had appropriate risk assessments been carried out.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801678379-ADNFCR
