Cardiff Council cuts speed limit in inner city

Cardiff Council has cut the speed limit in the inner city to 20mph.

The authority secured £200,000 from the Welsh Government for the pilot scheme, with residential streets in the Cathays and Roath areas using the new speed limit from next summer, reports Wales Online.

New warning signs will be introduced in time for the 2014 summer school holidays, ensuring motorists are aware they are entering a 20mph zone.

Councillor Ralph Cook, cabinet member for transport, told the news provider: “I know that it has worked elsewhere, but what I want to know is if it will work in Cardiff.

“My guidance to officers is that at this stage we do not include the main distributor roads, except where there are district shopping centres – which could include City Road.”
