Companies can help to cut their outgoings by investing in good quality health and safety signage, according to an industry expert.

Phil Bates, senior policy and technical adviser at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Iosh), said that whether a business is looking to save costs or not they should always ensure that the necessary equipment is provided for staff.

He added that safety tools, such as signs, lighting and fire extinguishers help to reduce downtime and stoppages by cutting accidents which might be caused by faulty equipment.

"Sometimes it may be tempting to buy a product just because of its price, but this isn't always the answer. Employers need to ensure they are considering the quality, durability and features of any product they offer their workforce."

Iosh is the largest membership body for health and safety professionals. More than 40,000 people are signed up in 85 countries since it was founded in 1945 and registered as a charity in 1962.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801426178-ADNFCR
