BSC launches new health and safety report

18th May 2010 | Health and Safety Signs

UK companies have been issued with a new set of goals in relation to health and safety practices in the workplace.

The British Safety Council (BSC) has launched a report which is designed to highlight the crucial role managers can play in improving their firms' approach to safe working.

Entitled 'Transforming the Culture of Workplace Health and Safety', the study was unveiled last week at a conference attended by a number of businesses with excellent safety records.

"We are certain that the goals that have been set for preventing workplace injury and ill health will not be met without strong and effective leadership, a workforce that is actively engaged in managing risks and is competent to do so," said Julie Nerney, chief executive of the BSC.

Ms Nerney added that the BSC will continue to play an active role in promoting the value of strong leadership and involving employees in devising health and safety strategies.

Meanwhile, the Health and Safety Executive has teamed up with the BHF-BSSA Group to launch a new factsheet aimed at reminding firms of their responsibilities in relation to asbestos exposure.
