Fire Extinguisher Signs

Fire Extinguisher Signs indicate the location and type of fire extinguishers present.

Different fire extinguishers are intended for use on fires on different materials.  Fire extinguisher signs are designed to achieve four major goals:

  1. Show the location of fire extinguishers
  2. Identify the type of fire extinguisher (eg. Dry Powder / CO2)
  3. Identify what materials the fire extinguisher can be used on.
The lowest cost type of fire extinguisher is water, this can be used on solid fires that don’t involve electrical, gas, metal of oil based fires.  Foam fire extinguishers are more versatile and can be used on liquid fires and gas fires.  Dry powder can be used on liquid, solid or gas fires.  C02 can be used on liquid and electrical fires.  There are other types for use on specialist types of fires and materials.
  4.  In some cases explain how the fire extinguisher should be used

Fire extinguisher sign materials

Fire extinguisher signs are available in a variety of different materials  to allow them to be used in different environments and fixed in different ways.  Self Adhesive Vinyl signs are a cost effective material that can be fixed directly to flat surfaces.  Rigid plastic can be fixed directly to surfaces with adhesive pads or can be suspended, although this method of fixing is unusual for fire extinguishers.   Stainless steel and aluminum signs can be fixed on to hard surfaces or can be drilled and screwed to surfaces.
