A mother in Derbyshire has demanded that improved safety signage and security bollards are installed on her street after her five-year-old daughter was involved in a near miss.

Sarah Ollerenshaw said that it was only a matter of time before someone was killed on Hassock Lane South, Shipley, a popular school route.

The latest incident involved a young female driver who lost control of her car and collided with a wall and fencing outside of Mrs Ollerenshaw's home.

Her daughter had left for school just moments before the incident.

Speaking to the Derby Telegraph, Mrs Ollerenshaw said: "I heard the bang and went out to see the car in front of the garden.
"Just a couple of minutes before, Philip was putting Lily into the car."

A council spokesperson claimed that bollards would be inappropriate in the area.
