Wrexham's annual Christmas market has been cancelled this year, after concerns over health and safety were raised.

Even the use of safety signage cannot save the event, with Wrexham Council confirming that it will not go ahead. It was set to feature 70 stalls, attracting several thousand shoppers, reports the Leader.

Alex Jones, owner of The Bank Bar, near St Giles Church, and chairman of Wrexham Chamber of Trade, said: "Unfortunately there are businesses who may have ordered extra food or planned to stay open for longer hours because of the market who will be affected by this decision, announced the day before it was due to happen."

In Yorkshire, a number of lollipop-shaped Christmas decorations have been seized by authorities, after they were deemed a health and safety danger.

Decorations that mimic food are illegal under European law, meaning that a national product recall has been issued by the importer.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801234614-ADNFCR
