A Welsh road sign has bizarrely been spotted in Waterlooville, baffling local drivers.

Local photographer Adele Mallows noticed the sign, which says "no road markings" in both languages and was put up after the Westbrook Grove road was resurfaced a number of weeks ago.

"I was born in Wales but I’ve lived here so long I consider myself Hampshire by adoption. I saw this sign about a week ago and thought it was amusing – it tickled me," Ms Mallows noted.

A Hampshire County Council official admitted that the authority was not aware that the signs were in use and has asked contractors to replace them.

Road signs in Derby have also left drivers confused, as they advise motorists to travel on the wrong side of the road.

Graham Browett, a pub owner on the Duffield Road street told the Derby Telegraph that the notices are causing "absolute chaos", leading to cars driving the wrong way on a dual carriageway.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801435800-ADNFCR
