Warning signs will be introduced in Portsmouth in an effort to improve safety for cyclists.

The Steer Clear campaign has been launched after an increase in the number of injured cyclists was noted, with Portsmouth News reporting that signs will also go up in Gosport and Fareham.

Sergeant Darren Ord, who is co-ordinating the campaign, told the news provider: "Steer Clear is really important to us, because it is designed purely to save life and stop people being injured on our roads."

The winter season brings further challenges to bike users, who will need to ensure that their cycles are clearly visible on dark nights, while regular checks should be carried out to lower the probability of accidents.

Mr Ord went on to say that the message to cyclists is to "be safe and be seen".

The campaign also includes a leaflet that highlights key safety tips and offers discount vouchers to lower the chance of accidents.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801461290-ADNFCR
