A business in Surrey has been sentenced after a length of scaffolding collapsed onto a street in Fulham.

Alliance Building and Contracting from Weybridge was prosecuted by the HSE after an investigation was made in October 2011 that identified safety failings.

The incident occurred at lunchtime on a busy thoroughfare, which was just a short distance from a nursery and local schools.

Inspector Charles Linfoot said: “Lillie Road is a busy one and it is a matter of chance that the collapse, brought about by the safety failures of Alliance Building & Contracting, did not have more serious consequences.”
Mr Linfoot commented that the case shows how important it is to actively manage all risks on a construction site.

Alliance Building & Contracting Ltd, of Monument Hill, Weybridge, was found guilty in their absence of a breach of the Work at Height Regulations 2005, resulting in Magistrates imposing a fine of £10,000 along with costs of £7,190.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801610970-ADNFCR
