Southwark Council signs up to Safer Cycling Pledge

Southwark Council has signed up to London Cycling Campaign's Safer Cycling Pledge.

It is targeted at local authorities and was agreed on March 26th with Charlie Lloyd of the London Cycling Campaign, with the project boasting more than 40,000 supporters throughout the capital.

Councillor Barrie Hargrove, cabinet member for environment, transport and recycling, agreed the pledge and said: "As a cyclist myself, I am very pleased to give the council's full commitment to Southwark Cyclists that we will work as a council and with our contractors to aim for all our lorries and those of our contractors to meet the highest safety standards."

Mr Hargrove went on to say that the authority aims to be London's top borough for cycling.

Paul Coleman, a large vehicle driver at Southwark Council, also commented on the pledge, saying that the best equipment is needed to protect cyclists on roads in the capital.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801565078-ADNFCR
