A South Yorkshire road safety project has won an award for its work relating to road safety involving mobility scooters.

The Scooter Safe project was conceived by South Yorkshire Police as part of the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership, and it aims to underline owners’ lawful responsibilities while using their machines, reports the Doncaster Free Press.

Joanne Wehrle, South Yorkshire Safer roads education manager, said: “As part of the work of the Safer Roads Partnership our partners develop a full range of interventions and education packages for all types of road users to help keep people safer on South Yorkshire roads.”

Ms Wehlre explained that it is pleasing to see how well the initiative has been received by people, adding that the work highlights the excellent work of the partnership.

It is important that users of mobility scooters take notice of warning signs on the road, or they could put themselves at risk of injuring themselves and other people.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801623208-ADNFCR
