Snow gates to be fitted on Woodhead Pass

Work will begin to install warning signs and snow gates on the A628 Woodhead Pass this week, in order to boost the safety of road users on the route.

The signage will be installed on the east and westbound approaches to the route. It is expected for them to be fitted by the end of March on the Mottram, Flouch and Westwood roundabouts.

Collectively the snow gates and warning signs will cost around £250,000.

Highways Agency project manager Sujad Hussain said: "What we’re trying to do is ensure that drivers already on the route have more warning of what’s ahead and have more time to take alternative strategic routes, rather than create congestion on local roads."

New safety signage has also been installed on a road in Kidderminster, with the Kidderminster Shuttle reporting that the move comes after residents expressed worries over the safety of children when crossing Heronswood Road.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801300455-ADNFCR
