The dangers of skin disease have been highlighted at an event in Huddersfield, potentially causing firms to introduce new warning signs regarding the issue.

The Institution of Occupational Safety (IOSH) Yorkshire branch gathered a number of industry experts in Brighouse to deliberate over the main causes and symptoms of conditions such as eczema and dermatitis.

Yorkshire Branch chair Michelle Muxworthy said: "Although skin disease is thought to be one of the most prolific work-related ill-health problems, we don’t have statistics to show how big a problem this really is in the UK."

Ms Muxworthy stated that the event aimed to increase awareness of skin diseases in the workplace, ensuring that employers understand their responsibilities to protect workers.

Earlier this month, the 2012 "Be Aware Kids" Child Safety on Farms calendar was launched in Northern Ireland, emphasising the importance of effective health and safety measures on farms in the country.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801231890-ADNFCR
