The importance of observing warning signs has been highlighted after people have been seen ignoring signage at frozen ponds in Carmarthenshire.

There have been several rescues in recent days, with 13 people getting into difficulty, causing officials to warn skaters to say off the frozen waters, the Western Mail reported.

Park wardens are concerned that youngsters in particular are ignoring the signage alerting them to the danger of skating on frozen water.

"Some people have been risking their safety by attempting to walk or skate on the frozen ponds," Carmarthenshire council grounds maintenance manager Paul Murray told the newspaper.

"Not only is this a grave risk to themselves but also it jeopardises the safety of anyone who may have to attempt to rescue them," he added.

Recently, it was reported that warning signs were put up around frozen lakes and ponds in Middlesbrough.
