Shropshire safety sign 'wrong for 20 years'

A safety sign in Shropshire has contained a spelling mistake for nearly 20 years.

The sign, pointing motorists in the direction of Malinslee, in Telford, has spelt the town incorrectly as "Mallinslee" for two decades, the Shropshire Star reports.

This is the latest mistake to embarrass Telford and Wrekin Council, since the newspaper reported how a warning sign at Ironbridge Gorge wrongly spells Horsehay as "Horeshay".

A councillor told the newspaper he had noticed the Malinslee sign over the years.

"I have been around for ten years but it must have been like that for about 20 years. Each time I see it I think I must report it and get something done but then events take over, things happen and I forget," he said.

Adam Lawrence, the council's cabinet member for environment and rural areas, told the newspaper the sign will be correctly altered as part of a project to improve signage, taking place until next March. Close to £250,000 had been injected into improving signage, he added.

Earlier this month the BBC reported how a warning sign in Gloucestershire wrongly spelt Cotswold as "Cotwsold".ADNFCR-2754-ID-800096258-ADNFCR
