Scottish event to highlight importance of warning signs

30th November 2009 | Warning Signs

An event taking place in Scotland today will highlight the importance of using precautionary measures such as installing warning signs in the stoneworking industry.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has teamed with the Working Well Together campaign and Beatsons Building Supplies for a demonstration at the firm's builders' merchants in Alloa, which will highlight the danger of the disease silicosis.

It is a significant threat to those working in the stonemasonry industry and the talk will stress how employers can help to raise awareness of the condition by providing information through methods such as warning signs.

Pamela McKenzie, from the HSE, commented: "There are many practical steps employees and employers can take to reduce the risks from inhaling stone dust. Monday's event aims to provide workers with the knowledge they need to help them protect their health."

Meanwhile, a recent event in Milton Keynes helped to raise awareness of the danger of asbestos by informing workers about the importance of using precautionary measures, such as putting up warning signs.ADNFCR-2754-ID-19485007-ADNFCR
